The Plan
Philly Scriptwriters is a self-organizing (voluntary, no membership fee) project of Philadelphia area writers (screen writers, play writers, documentary writers, stand-up writers, etc.) to help each other with our writing and our careers.
We include both aspiring and professional scriptwriters focused on Plays, Dramatic Film and Video, Documentary Film and Video, Television, Web and New Media.
We believe there are over 1000 serious script writers in the city and that great things can come from our association If you are scriptwriter in Philadelphia, you are invited to join us.
THE PLAN
Note: This is the plan so far. Please join us and help develop it further!
The first step is to invite the city’s writers together on a listserv. If you are a local script writer you are invited to join the listserv. Or if you are Film, Television, or Theater professional that works with writers, you are also invited. Please join and help us locate and invite other script writers. As our numbers increase, so can our ability to help each other.
And, while the list is growing, we can begin to share information or request information simply by emailing to the listserv.
Ways We Can Help Each Other
1. Listing free or low-cost resources for writers.
2. Creating a news blog and calendar of script-related events for local script-writers.
3. Obtaining the best information on developing and selling scripts (agents, teachers, script-doctors, books, software, etc.)
4. For those that want it, organizing specialized genre groups (e.g. dramatic, comic, horror, romance, adventure, etc.) so that writers can read works in their genre, and give and get more tuned feedback.
5. Once we are gathered together, surveying script-writers to see what we need or want in the way of resources and where we are at (our interests, skill, level, etc.)
6. By having a large number of writers gathered we may get better deals for related services, e.g. proofing, editing, coverage, representation etc or other things writers need (e.g. health insurance).
7. Sharing information about our projects to promote them.
8. Avoiding scams, idea-thieves, bad contracts, development hell, production purgatory, etc.
9. For those that want it, listing those with properties (for example, listing summaries, treatments, loglines) in a directory.
10. For those that want it,increasing the chances of working with local directors and producers and getting our works read and produced locally.
